English Premier League : Week 1

The night before the Premier League season starts, here’s a look at what one English bookmaker is offering in prices. I’ll highlight the favourites in bold and won’t add the odds for a draw. Please note the first team are the home team unlike in US Sports. The first game of the season teams will be out of sync, not up to full match speed and new players may not have integrated well so far.

Saturday’s games

Hull 15/4 – Leicester 5/6

Hull host champions Leicester City, in the early kick-off. Both teams will struggle this year but enter on waves of confidence.

My Pick: Leicester

Player(s) to Watch: J. Vardy, E. Jakupovic, A. Hernandez

At 3pm GMT, 5 matches start.

Burnley 7/5 – Swansea City 9/4

Even though Burnley are one of the favourites for relegation, they are favourites here, I could see an upset coming very easily.

My Pick: Swansea

Player(s) to Watch: J. Montero, T. Heaton

ANDRE AYEW HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO WEST HAM

ASHLEY WILLIAMS HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO EVERTON

Crystal Palace 1/1 – West Bromich Albion 7/2

Palace are evens, however WBA will give them a game.

My Pick: Crystal Palace

Player(s) to Watch: Y. Cabaye, S. Dann, S. Berahino

ALEX MCCARTHY HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO SOUTHAMPTON

Everton 11/5 – Tottenham Hotspur 7/5

This could easily go anyway; it wouldn’t be of any shock for any result.

My Pick: Everton

Player(s) to Watch: L. Baines, H. Kane

JOHN STONES HAS BEEN TRANSFERRED TO MAN CITY

Middlesbrough 11/8 – Stoke City 12/5

Again this could go either way, Draw would be fair.

My Pick: Draw

Player(s) to Watch: J. Rhodes, Bojan

Southampton 4/5 – Watford 4/1

Watford are a better team than the odds suggest.

My Pick: Southampton

Player(s) to Watch: O. Ighalo, van Dijk

The 5.30 pm GMT game is

Manchester City 4/1 ON – Sunderland 14/1

Hard to look past only one result.

My Pick: Man City

Player(s) to Watch: De Bruyne, V. Mannone

Sunday’s Games

Bournemouth 15/4 – Manchester United 17/20

Manchester United have the names, but can they start with 3 points?

My Pick: Draw

Arsenal 7/5 – Liverpool 21/10

My Pick: Liverpool

This game could provide a 0-0 stalemate or a goal glut, Arsenals defence was a concern in 2015/16

Monday

Chelsea 13/20 – West Ham United 5/1

West Ham did everything right last year, however under new manager Chelsea will look to start with the 3 points at home.

My Pick: Chelsea

My team for all the Saturday games are, pending team announcements

GK E. Jacupovic – Hull

D G. Clichy – Man City

D S. Dann – Crystal Palace

M K. De Bruyne – Man City

M C. Gardner – WBA

F Sergio Aguero – Man City

F Bojan – Stoke

UT R. Sterling – Man City

So there’s a look at the 1st week of English Premier League action, in 2016/17.
