Week 5 College Football Daily Fantasy QB Picks

Some better games this week and some possible high scoring shootouts. Manziel and Mariota may be worth every penny you spend on them in daily leagues but you’ll need to find some cheap options at other positions. The prices below come from Draft Kings. Daily fantasy salaries can vary from site to site. Be sure to check the scoring before filling out your lineup.

Draft Kings Structure: $50,000 Total Budget
2 QB’s – 2 RB’s – 3 WR’s 1 TE – 1 Flex (WR or RB)

Draft Street Structure: $100,000 Total Budget
2 QB’s – 3 RB’s – 2 WR’s 1 TE – 2 Flex (WR or RB)

Draft Day Structure: $100,000 Total Budget
2 QB’s – 2 RB’s – 2 WR’s 1 TE – 2 Flex (WR or RB)

Johnny Manziel – Texas A&M –
Draft Kings: $12,000Draft Street: $22,047Draft Day: $22,500
Texas A&M Aggies at Arkansas Razorbacks
VEGAS LINE: Texas A&M -3
Last Week: 14/21 244 Yards 1 TD 1 INT – 102 Rushing Yards 2 TD
Johnny Football didn’t have to play the entire game against SMU last week, but still put up great numbers. Look for more of the same from Manziel this week, but this game should be a closer contest. He is a great option to use if you are able to find some cheap sleepers at other positions.

Marcus Mariota – Oregon –
Draft Kings: $10,250Draft Street: $21,808Draft Day: $22,500
California Golden Bears at Oregon Ducks
VEGAS LINE: Oregon -37
Last Week: No Game – 2013 Game Log
Cal has one of the worst defenses in all of college football which should be easy pickings for Mariota.  Cal does have a good offense and should be able to put up some points against Oregon’s defense. The hope is that this game can stay somewhat close and it can be a shootout. Both teams did not play last week, so everyone should be rested and ready to go in this one.

Tajh Boyd – Clemson –
Draft Kings: $9,500Draft Street: $20,406Draft Day: $20,800
Wake Forest Demon Deacons at Clemson Tigers
VEGAS LINE: Clemson -28
Last Week: 24/37 244 Yards 3 TD – 38 Rushing Yards
Had a decent game last week, but many expect more from Boyd who could be a top NFL draft pick. Wake Forest won’t be the stiffest test for Clemson which means Boyd should have a good game. I’d probably rather spend the extra money and use Mariota, but Boyd shouldn’t be a bad high end option at QB in daily leagues.

Kenny Guiton – Ohio State –
Draft Kings: $9.000Draft Street: $12,738Draft Day: $15,400
Wisconsin Badgers at Ohio State Buckeyes
VEGAS LINE: Ohio State -7.5
Week 2 Stats: 24/34 215 Yards 6 TD – 5 Rushing Yards
Had 6 passing TD’s in the first half of the game last week before coming out.  This week Ohio State faces a real team but you’ll want to double check who the starting QB is. Will Braxton Miller finally play? Is Guiton the new starting QB? You’ll want to find this out before starting either of the Ohio State QB’s.

Sean Mannion – Oregon State –
Draft Kings: $7,500Draft Street: $18,091Draft Day: N/A
Colorado Buffaloes at Oregon State Beavers
VEGAS LINE: Oregon State -10
Last Week: 38/55 367 Yards 3 TD – MINUS 23 Rushing Yards
I like starting Mannion because he is accurate and has plenty of weapons to throw to. Oregon State also is going with their #2 RB and they barely run the ball at all. This could be a high scoring game against a rested Colorado team that hasn’t played in 2 weeks.

Braxton Miller – Ohio State – Double Check Injury/Starting Status
Draft Kings: $7,250 Draft Street: $12,846Draft Day: $15,900
Wisconsin Badgers at Ohio State Buckeyes
VEGAS LINE: Ohio State -7.5
Last Week: Did not play
SEE KENNY GUITON

Taylor Kelly – Arizona State –
Draft Kings: $7,250Draft Street: $16,772Draft Day: $16,300
USC Trojans at Arizona State Sun Devils
VEGAS LINE: Arizona State -6.5
Last Week: 30/55 367 Yards 3 TD 2 INT – MINUS 4 Rushing Yards
Kelly put up good numbers against a solid Stanford defense last week. USC has some talented players on the defensive side of the ball, but Kelly should throw 40-50 passes in this game.

Jameis Winston – Florida State –
Draft Kings: $7,250Draft Street: $16,696Draft Day: $19,000
Florida State Seminoles at Boston College Eagles
VEGAS LINE: Florida State -21
Last Week: 10/19 148 Yards 2 TD – 11 Rushing Yards
Had limited numbers last week because of the easy opponent FSU was playing.  Should be better value this week as he will probably play the entire game.  He is a Freshman, so temper your expectations a little. Winston is a guy who might be in your fantasy lineup a lot more in the coming years…..

Keith Price – Washington–
Draft Kings: $7,250Draft Street: $14,902Draft Day: $14,400
Arizona Wildcats at Washington Huskies
VEGAS LINE: Washington -7
Last Week: 16/21 213 Yards 3 TD – 1 Rushing Yards 1 TD
Like a lot of QB’s last week, Price was limited because of the weak opponent he was facing. This week should be a fun game against Arizona where lots of points could go on the board. Look for Price to have a good game and he is reasonably priced at $7,250.

Aaron Murray – Georgia –
Draft Kings: $7,000Draft Street: $14,411Draft Day: $19,150
LSU Tigers at Georgia Bulldogs
VEGAS LINE: Georgia -3
Last Week: 22/30 408 Yards 3 TD 1 INT – 37 Rushing Yards 1 TD
Has put up over 300 yards in the first 3 weeks of the Bulldogs season. Could be a very competitive, somewhat high scoring game against the LSU Tigers. Look for more of the same from Murray this week. Murray had a poor game against Clemson on the road in week 1, but has played very well at home the last 2 weeks. I’d probably be cautious about playing Murray on the road in a SEC game, but this week he could be a very solid option.

Jared Goff – Cal –
Draft Kings: $7,000Draft Street: $15,549Draft Day: $17,700
California Golden Bears at Oregon Ducks
VEGAS LINE: Oregon -37
Last Week: No Game – 2013 Game Log
Has been an absolute stud this year, but keep in mind all of his games have been played at home. Oregon is a tough place to play, but Goff should be throwing easily 40 passes this game, possibly a lot more. Cal has some good WR’s who can get open against good CB’s. Cal will definitely lose this game, but hopefully they can put up 28-40 points and Goff will pay off. Goff is a Freshman and this is his first road start. Cross your fingers if starting him.

Keenan Reynolds – Navy –
Draft Kings: $7,000Draft Street: N/ADraft Day: N/A
Navy Midshipmen at Western Kentucky Hilltoppers
VEGAS LINE: Navy -2
Last Week: No Game – 2013 Game Log
Keenan is a glorified running back because of the option offense Navy employs. He has rushed for over 100 yards in each of the first two Navy games of the season. He actually isn’t a bad passer, has some zip on his throws and is accurate. Could be a great option to start in daily leagues because he runs the ball so much.

James Franklin – Missouri –
Draft Kings: $6,750Draft Street: N/ADraft Day: N/A
Arkansas State Red Wolves at Missouri Tigers
VEGAS LINE: Missouri -21
Last Week: 32/47 343 Yards 2 TD 2 INT – 61 Rushing Yards 1 TD
Was a solid option last week despite the 2 INT’s. This is a big guy who can run and throw. Should be a high scoring output for Missouri and Franklin is moderately priced at $6,750. The only leagues I cashed in last week are ones where I had Franklin in my lineup.

Bo Wallace – Ole Miss –
Draft Kings: $6,750 – Draft Street: $13,005Draft Day: $16,050
Ole Miss Rebels at Alabama Crimson Tide
VEGAS LINE: Alabama -17
Last Week: No Game – 2013 Game Log
I’d rather start Franklin or Hogan at this price. But Wallace is a runner/thrower who might have to do some special things to keep Ole Miss in this game against #1 ranked Alabama.

Kevin Hogan – Stanford –
Draft Kings $6,750 Draft Street: $11,039  – Draft Day: $13,800
Stanford Cardinal at Washington State Cougars
VEGAS LINE: Stanford -10.5
Last Week: 11/17 151 Yards 2 TD 1 INT – 45 Rushing Yards
Stanford runs a conservative offense that features lots of running. Washington State has a decent defense. Don’t look for Hogan to rack up huge numbers, but he is a good bet to record 2 or 3 TD’s.

Bryn Renner – North Carolina –
Draft Kings: $6,750 Draft Street: $13,881Draft Day: N/A
East Carolina Pirates at North Carolina Tar Heels
VEGAS LINE: North Carolina -11
Last Week: 14/29 218 Yards 2 TD 1 INT – 3 Rushing Yards
Not the most accurate of passers but this could be a high scoring game against East Carolina where Renner could be poised to have his best game. Only has 4 TD’s through 3 games, and you’ll need him to do better than that if you want to win in daily leagues.

Brandon Mitchell – North Carolina State – $6,500DO NOT PLAY HURT
Central Michigan Chippewas at North Carolina State Wolfpack
VEGAS LINE: North Carolina State -23

J.W. Walsh – Oklahoma State –
Draft Kings: $6,500 – Draft Street: $18,741 – Draft Day: $18,600
Oklahoma State Cowboys at West Virginia Mountaineers
VEGAS LINE: Oklahoma State -20.5
Last Game: 17/30 181 Yards 1 TD 1 INT – 45 Rushing Yards
Was only ok in Oklahoma State’s game on 9/14. Walsh can run and throw and is an interesting option in daily leagues this week.  They are coming off a bye week and Walsh will need to be sharp to pay off for your lineup.

Garrett Gilbert – SMU –
Draft Kings: $6,500 Draft Street: $13,384 – Draft Day: N/A
SMU Mustangs at TCU Horned Frogs
VEGAS LINE: TCU -19.5
Last Week: 37/62 310 Yards 1 TD 1 INT – 21 Rushing Yards
The problem with Gilbert is that he struggles big time in the redzone. Will throw 40-50 passes a game, but only has 2 passing TD’s this year. The WR’s he has are kind of weak. Someone like Jared Goff at Cal has better WR’s which can help a lesser talented QB out. SMU throws a bunch of short passes, and they don’t really have a big play guy.

Nathan Scheelhaase – Illinois –
Draft Kings: $6,500 Draft Street: N/A – Draft Day: N/A
Miami (OH) RedHawks at Illinois Fighting Illini
VEGAS LINE: Illinois -24
Last Week: No Game – 2013 Game Log
His last outing against Washington was bad, but had 2 good games prior to that. Has had a bye week to work out the kinks. Gets a somewhat easy opponent this week, and look for Scheelhaase to get back on track.
